Richmond artist’s work in top London gallery
Two paintings by Richmond artist Andy Thursfield will be shown at a top London gallery this week. Panter and Hall Gallery in Pall Mall is showing a small selection of work from the New Light Prize Exhibition of northern art which commenced at the Bowes Museum in October 2015. Andy’s original painting sold immediately on the evening of the private view and when the exhibition moved to Harrogate’s Mercer Gallery earlier this year it was replaced with another of his recent pieces.
Andy was delighted when he was told that his work was to be shown in London and even more so when New Light judge and gallery owner Matthew Hall selected not one but two of his latest paintings, highly detailed watercolours which are simultaneously depictions of feathers and portraits of Charlie ‘Bird’ Parker. The exhibition runs from Monday 27th June to Friday 1st July and can be viewed online at www.panterandhall.com/exhibition/new-light
3 into 15 exhibition at The Station
Paintings, prints and ceramics by 3 Richmond artists.
The trio of creative friends, who live in and around the town, all work in very different media, but the common thread in their artwork is an endearing sense of playfulness and a wry sense of humour. Andy Thursfield’s work combines discarded computer parts with meticulous painting techniques, raising intriguing questions about our relationship with technology and nature. Potter Kathy Pike sculpts perky little mice, birds, frogs, cats and other animals, brimming with life, character and attitude. Brian Pike’s paintings, prints and drawings range from off-kilter Dales landscapes to darkly humorous visions of eccentric little creatures acting out unfathomable obsessions.
